Desert Photoshoot

Morocco | Sahara Desert Luxury Camp

When we designed our Morocco Soul Sisters trip, I knew I wanted a dedicated desert photoshoot built into the experience. An intentional, styled moment where every woman felt confident, beautiful, and fully present in the Sahara. And it ended up being one of my favorite things we did.

Why We Plan a Photoshoot on Soul Sisters Trips

One of the things I’ve learned over the years is that most women are rarely in the frame. We’re the ones taking the pictures. Cropping ourselves out. Holding the camera. On our trips, we flip that.

Before we even left for Morocco, the group was already planning outfits. We shared inspiration photos. We talked about color palettes that would complement the sand. Flowing dresses. Jewel tones. Creams and golds. Turquoise against burnt orange dunes. Scarves that catch the wind. It became part of the anticipation of the trip.

Then once we arrived at our Sahara luxury camp, we chose a date and time specifically for golden hour. Because if you’re doing a desert photoshoot, you do it right. One of the great things about traveling with women is leaning into girlhood! Nothing says girlhood like getting dressed up and taking cute pics!

We also had a camel ride planned for sunset so it went hand in hand with our planned photoshoot.

The Setting: Sahara Desert Luxury Camp

Our camp was tucked deep into the dunes, surrounded by nothing but sand and sky. As the sun began to lower, everything shifted into warm amber and soft gold tones. The dunes cast long shadows. The sky turned pastel. It honestly didn’t even look real. The lighting was incredible and the rolling sand dunes were the perfect backdrop for a desert photoshoot with friends.

Outfit Planning for the Perfect Desert Photoshoot

The secret to a stunning desert photoshoot is intention.

Everyone planned ahead. No last-minute outfits. No “I’ll just wear this.” The girls chose pieces that moved beautifully in the wind. Long silhouettes. Lightweight fabrics. Texture.

Turquoise popped against the dunes. Mustard and rust tones blended into the landscape. Cream and white reflected the golden light. Some layered jewelry so it would shimmer at sunset. Others wrapped scarves around their hair for a more traditional desert feel.

When we all stepped out onto the sand together, it felt like an editorial spread. And the best part? No one was self-conscious. Everyone was cheering each other on. Everyone was so excited to see each other’s outfits, and everyone was hyping each other up!

Types of Photos We Captured

Solo Portraits in the Dunes

Standing alone on a dune with nothing but sky and sand behind you is powerful. These shots feel dramatic, timeless, and deeply personal.

Camel Silhouettes at Sunset

As the camels moved across the horizon, their shadows stretched long against the sand. The golden light created these incredible silhouettes that looked straight out of a movie. Of course, we had to capture this magical experience! The funny part is that so often the camels would smile with us!

Group Shots

We of course had to capture a few group photos of all of us having so much fun!

Final Thoughts

There’s something transformative about seeing yourself in a place like the Sahara. Bold. Radiant. Centered. Not rushed. Not distracted. Just fully in the moment.

When everyone received their images later, the energy in the group chat was unreal. Screenshots. Profile picture updates. “I’ve never loved a photo of myself like this before.”

That’s why we do it.

A desert photoshoot isn’t just a photo session. It’s a memory you can hold onto. A reminder of who you were in that season of your life.

And in the Sahara, under that golden sky, we all felt like the main character.
